What Measures Ensure that Notary Jurat is Not Misused?
Notary jurat is a written statement issued by a notary public that certifies they have administered and witnessed an oath. The oath can either be an oath of public office or it can be an affidavit swearing that a document is true under penalty of perjury. In addition to notary jurat, notarizes also verify the identity of people who sign documents and stamp them. A few safeguards against misuse of notary powers are in place. Organizations like the National Notary Association are dedicated to educating, serving, and advocating for the country’s 4.8 million notaries. Notary seals and other supplies are also available through the National Notary Association. Another security measure is the bond that many states require prospective notaries to secure before they can begin practicing.
