Where property taxes are commited to
Property taxes are usually assessed by county and local governments, school districts, and other special authorities such as for water and sewer service, where property taxes are usually deductible on federal income tax returns. Property tax is collected by local governments to provide for the many services most of us take for granted, where schools, police and fire protection and public libraries are possible because of revenue from the property tax. Property tax supports many different “taxing authorities”, where cities, counties, school districts, and townships are the most common. Taxing authorities also can include community college districts, agricultural extension districts, assessor offices, hospital districts and sanitation districts.
